Rachel Asnes, BA
Clinical Intern

Hello! My name is Rachel and I am a Master’s level clinical intern currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand Canyon University. Prior to my enrollment at Grand Canyon University, I studied Psychology at the University of Rhode Island, where I received cum laude with my Bachelor’s degree. I have obtained my certificate as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level I and Level II (CCTP-I and CCTP-II). I’m also completing the Gottman Method Couples Therapy Levels I and II training.

I am available for in-person sessions in both Cumberland and East Providence, as well as sessions via telehealth.

My desire to be a clinician in the mental health field stems from my own experience in therapy and overall passion to help others. I strive to maintain a therapeutic environment consisting of mutual trust, respect, and empathy. I believe in a safe and comfortable atmosphere to allow for the expression and discussion of feelings, thoughts, and experiences. I implement a person-centered, individualized approach and incorporate a variety of concepts stemming from acceptance and commitment therapy, internal family systems therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and gestalt therapy; further embodying a mindfulness and strength based approach. I am committed to refining, expanding, and evolving my clinical skills and am interested in working with children, teens, adults, families, couples, individuals and groups.

I have worked as a case manager in a non-profit organization assisting diverse individuals with a variety of mental health disorders. I have the desire to help individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, body image issues, relationship and family conflict, life adjustments and transitions, grief, and other areas resulting in distress. Together we can explore and improve your insight, skills, and awareness in the areas you are struggling with. I hope to support you in your journey of a healthier, meaningful life and work collaboratively to identify your goals, challenges, coping skills, and strengths.
