SERVICES
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is your time to sit with an experienced mental health clinician to freely discuss your concerns in a safe, supportive, and confidential setting. The process can help people identify underlying causes of symptoms, provide strategies for addressing distressing thoughts and behaviors, and guide people to make positive lifestyle changes. Individual therapy can help people with the skills to manage these symptoms, reduce stress, and improve their quality of life. Our experienced counselors employ structured assessment processes to determine which approach or modality of treatment is most likely to effectively treat the underlying issues.
Some of the issues we often address in individual counseling include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-Esteem Issues
- Grief
- Addiction
- LGBTQ+
- Childhood Trauma / PTSD
Child and Adolescent Counseling
Child and adolescent counseling is a specific type of therapy that focuses on young children, teens, and adolescents with one or more mental health challenges. It also provides support to youths who have experienced trauma, who are experiencing difficulty making or maintaining healthy friendships or who may be struggling with a stressful home life. Our designated play therapy room is ideal for younger children and offers a low-stress, fun environment where they can be comfortable discussing their feelings.
Some of the issues we address in child counseling include:
- Anxiety and Depression
- Self-Injurious Behaviors
- Social Skills Development
- Bullying
- Behavior Issues
- Play Therapy
Couples and Marriage Counseling
At Cumberland Counseling, many of our professional counselors possess the specialized training necessary to effectively provide qualified marriage or couple's counseling services. Our goals are to help couples understand one another on a deeper level, bring closure to past disputes, build on their strengths, and identify ways to improve communication in the relationship. Some of the techniques employed in couples counseling include Gottman, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT), among others. We encourage couples to commit themselves equally to the process by making a concerted effort to meet the emotional needs of their partner.
Whether your needs are for pre-marital counseling, to confront
relationship obstacles and re-build trust, or to simply strengthen
your commitment, our counselors will thoroughly assess your
individual and relationship dynamics to help you to find clarity
and to provide you with the emotional skills and tools to
move forward with confidence.
