Chanta Pou, APRN

Consultant

Chanta is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Amherst College. She completed her graduate training as a nurse practitioner specializing in psychiatry at Yale University.

She has worked in a wide variety of settings and modalities related to mental health. Chanta has worked in addictions research at Butler and Bradley Hospitals with both adult and adolescent populations. She also has worked with individuals with severe chronic mental illness in the community to divert hospitalization and homelessness. Since graduating from Yale, she has worked as a nurse practitioner in private practice, treating a range of disorders from anxiety, and mood dysregulation, to ADHD.

While she believes medications can alleviate symptoms of psychiatric illnesses, her philosophy is that true healing must involve therapy and lifestyle changes. To eliminate or reduce reliance on medications, individuals must actively engage in therapy and learn coping skills. She hopes potential patients will take full advantage of the rich resources that Cumberland Counseling has to offer.
