Michelle Smith, BA, MA Candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy
Clinical Intern
My name is Michelle Smith, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University, where I am in training to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am completing my internship at Cumberland Counseling, where I support individuals, couples, and families through a client-centered, culturally responsive, and holistic approach to therapy.
I bring a strong commitment to promoting wellness across diverse communities and creating a safe, inclusive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. My academic training has provided me with a solid foundation through coursework in areas such as Foundations of Couple and Family Therapy, Systemic Family Therapy Theory and Practice, Adolescent Psychology, Couple and Marital Therapy, and Psychopathology: Diagnosis and Treatment of Behavioral Disorders. I have also completed advanced residency training and coursework in professional ethics, further preparing me for clinical work.
At Cumberland Counseling, I am dedicated to helping clients navigate life transitions, relationship dynamics, and emotional challenges. I look forward to continuing to grow both personally and professionally as I move toward licensure and deepen my ability to serve clients with compassion, integrity, and respect.
