Patricia Sommerville, BA, MA Candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy 
Clinical Intern

Patricia Sommerville is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with Capella University.  She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of the West Indies.  Her voluntary work with organizations including the Community Counseling and Assessment Centre and The Crisis Centre in the Bahamas, has helped her to develop an interest and appreciation of the synergy of group therapy as well as interactions with court referred adolescents.

 

Working in the service industry for several years has enabled her to develop life skills, including communication and conflict resolution, which have contributed to clients’ satisfaction. She believes that each person has a measure of strength and tenacity to cope with challenges.  She is excited to be interning with Cumberland Counseling and be trained and supervised by Dr. N. Boucher and her team. She anticipates working with individuals, couples, and families in utilizing strength-based approaches which will help to empower them in achieving their goals

Patricia appreciates the outdoors and likes gardening and playing tennis. She enjoys being with her family, travelling, discovering places and meeting people.  She brings a unique Caribbean outlook, and desires to see people succeed while realizing their full potential.
